IntelliJ IDEA Android Support plugin out in the wild!

Well, it didn't take too long before an Android plugin became available for IntelliJ IDEA. It's available through the Plugin Manager as Android Support. Works really well for a new release. I've been able to build some simple examples and run them through the Android emulator. I'm really enjoying playing with this Android SDK. It's done very well and it seems that they made the tools easily integrable into existing IDEs (for now Eclipse and IntelliJ).

  1. I can't get idea-android to work with 7.0.4. Everything is fine until I try to run I get 56 compile errors. Such as:
    Error: ERROR: Unknown command 'compile'
    Error: Android Asset Packaging Tool
    ...

    Any idea?

  2. I have the same problem with IDEA 7.0.5 and, with IDEA 8, the plug-in doesn't even install.

I think the problem with IDEA 7 is that the plugin was designed to work with the 0.1.1 or maybe the 0.2.0 version of the Android SDK but there were some significant changes for the 1.0_r1 version that is currently available.

  3. Is the plugin being kept up-to-date? Unfortunately, I haven't done much with Android in about a year.

  4. Doesn't appear to have been. The message board for the plugin has these issues posted but there doesn't seem to be any responses.

  5. So then we are left to look for something other than IDEA for Android development?

  6. It would appear that Eclipse (which I hate) would be the only IDE that has a current plugin. I guess we can always just build with an ant script. I might give that a try and I'll let you know how it goes.

  7. Yes I agree, why isn't IDEA doing something to support this platform? Let me know how it goes, I need to start an Android project soon.

  8. I'm just curious as I've never made an IDEA plugin, how hard is this? Ideally I'd want the maven IDEA plugin to be aware as I generally use that to setup IDEA.
